Specialized Driving Privileges - a second chance for suspended drivers

There has been a significant change in Indiana law regarding driving privileges. Previously, suspended drivers found it difficult, if not impossible, to obtain a driver's license, depending on the reason for the license suspension. However, Indiana Code 9-30-16 (Specialized Driving Privileges) allows most citizens with a suspended license to petition the Court to obtain Specialized Driving Privileges.

This law applies to those drivers whose licenses are suspended for Drunk Driving (OWI/DUI), Habitual Traffic Violator (HTV), Lifetime Suspensions and several other types of suspensions. This is a fantastic change in license law. However, driver's get one chance in their life to obtain Specialized Driving Privileges. Therefore, it is imnportant to determine if, and when, to apply for such privileges.
