Motor Vehicle Law Changes - 2015 Summary

On July 1, 2015, a number of changes to Indiana Motor Vehicle laws will take effect. The following is a brief synopsis of some of these changes:

1. Drivers with Lifetime License Suspensions (based upon Habitual Traffic Violator conviction) may petition the Court for Specialized Driving Privileges and may now also petition for rescission of the lifetime suspension after 10 years.

2. Criminal Courts must now advise defendants if a conviction would have Habitual Traffic Violator consequences.

3. Reckless Driving will become a Class C Misdemeanor unless the driving results in property damage.

4. Second Offense Drunk Driving convictions now will require a minimum one (1) year driver’s license suspension.
