Fort Wayne Police Officer Arrested for OWI

Captain Santiago "Jim" Zamora, a 20+ year veteran of the Fort Wayne Police Department, was arrested for Operating While Intoxicated - Endangering a Person (DUI/OWI), a Class A Misdemeanor, on Saturday, August 20, 2011. Captain Zamora was off-duty and driving his personal vehicle when he allegedly crashed into a railroad car in downtown Fort Wayne. Reports indicate that Captain Zamora was refusing a breath test and was also cited for a traffic violation (an infraction for Ignoring a Railroad Stop Sign).

If convicted, Captain Zamora could face a sentence of up to one (1) year in the Allen County Jail and would receive at least a ninety (90) day drivers license suspension. Additionally, the Indiana law requires a one (1) year license suspension for a breath test refusal. A conviction could also have employment consequenses for Captain Zamora.

Currently, law enforcement agencies throughout Indiana are cracking down on Drunk Driving (DUI/OWI). Law enforcement agencies are using special patrols specifically to enforce DUI/OWI laws. Please, be careful on the roads, don't drink and drive.

But, if you, or someone you know, is facing a drunk driving (DUI/OWI) charge, contact a Fort Wayne Drunk Driving Lawyer immediately. Do not plead guilty just because the BAC Datamaster (breath test) alleges you are over the legal limit.
